Welcome to the March Madness of self-care! It's a great time to remind ourselves to take care of ourselves physically and emotionally while we gear up for the annual college basketball tournament. Self-care is essential to maintaining our mental and emotional well-being, especially during these excitable, busy, March Madness-filled times.

A 3-Point Shot for Self-Care

There are several ways to support your self-care. Here are some self-care essentials to consider incorporating into your routine during March Madness of Self-Care:

Read something new

Take some time to curl up with a good book or your favorite magazine. Reading is an incredible gift that allows us to transport ourselves to different worlds, provide an outlet away from stress, and improve our cognitive functioning. Choose a book, magazine, or article that interests you and get to reading!

Drink delicious coffee

Whether you’re cozy at home or visiting your favorite local coffee shop. Sipping on your favorite type of coffee can be a comforting and energizing way to start your day. However, make sure to be mindful of your caffeine intake and balance your coffee ingestion by drinking plenty of water and other hydrating drinks.

Enjoy a Spa Day

Taking a break from the intensity of your weekly schedule by indulging in some self-pampering can greatly reduce your stress and promote relaxation. Make sure to treat yourself to a massage, facial, or other spa treatments to rejuvenate your body and mind.

Meditation

Constant focus, mindfulness, and meditation can help reduce tensity and anxiety while promoting a sense of internal calmness. Set aside a few minutes daily to meditate or practice deep breathing exercises. You can find free guided meditations online or simply sit quietly and focus on breathing.

Spend quality time with others

While watching the March Madness tournament can be a fun way to connect with friends and family, making time for meaningful interactions that don't revolve around basketball is important. Try branching out by scheduling a spring walk or facilitating a movie night with loved ones to strengthen your personal relationships.

Take a nap

A 15-30-minute power nap can help improve your mood, increase productivity, and reduce your weekly stress. Make sure to prioritize getting enough sleep during March Madness, and don't shy away from taking a quick nap between games.

Take a bubble bath

There is little to nothing out there that beats a warm, relaxing soak in the tub after a long day of activity. When preparing your bath, make sure to add some essential oils or Epsom salts to enhance your relaxing experience.

A Gentle Reminder

Self-care is an essential aspect of maintaining good physical and mental health. Think of it as a vital investment for your long-term health and happiness. We hope this blog has served as your reminder today that self-care is not selfish. Taking care of ourselves allows us to be more present within our relationships, productive, and empathetic with others. So as you root for your favorite teams this March Madness, make sure you take time to build regular healthy self-care habits to prioritize your well-being! Be your biggest cheerleader!
