Power posing is a technique that can help you feel more confident. You probably already know how confidence can affect your ability to perform well in stressful or challenging situations. If you don't have the confidence for a task, it's hard to relax and perform well, right? Well, power posing is all about using body language to project confidence. It might sound strange at first, but it works! In this post, I'll explain what power posing is and how you can use it yourself.

Power posing is a way to boost your confidence by holding a confident pose for two minutes. It's easy to do anywhere and anytime, and it can help you feel more confident and self-assured.

The idea behind power posing originated with Amy Cuddy, who has spent years researching how body language affects our emotions, hormones, and overall psyche. She found that people who held "high power" poses (like arms up in the air) showed measurable increases in testosterone levels compared to those who used low-power poses (like hunching over). These changes lasted for about 15 minutes after the experiment was over! By mimicking a powerful pose, your body and mind will feel more confident. This idea is similar to how when you hold a smile in the mirror, you feel happier, and we can thank our mirror neurons for that!

Why power posing?

You may have heard of power posing. You might even be doing it right now in your high school classes. In the past few years, this practice has been gaining popularity as a way to increase confidence, testosterone levels, and perceived dominance. Power posing is when you strike one of three poses—the Superman pose (arms outstretched), the Wonder Woman pose (hands on hips with legs apart), or the John Travolta pose (one hand on hip and another hand at your face)—for two minutes before an important event or meeting. I favor the Wonder Woman Pose! 

While these poses may sound silly, there's some science behind them! Studies show that adopting this posture can help you feel more powerful in stressful situations by increasing your perceived status and perceived power levels and decreasing cortisol levels (a hormone released during stressful moments).

Does it work for you?

Now that you know what power posing is and how it can boost your confidence let's talk about how it might affect you. As with any new trend or idea, the first step is to decide whether or not this is something that will work for you.

If you are feeling low or anxious: If you are experiencing a lot of stress in your life, such as a tense job interview or an important presentation at work, try power posing before the event. You may find that it gives you more confidence to handle whatever situation during the day.

If this sounds like something that would help improve your confidence in general: Power posing may be great for helping boost your confidence levels overall. Try doing some poses before heading out each morning and see if it helps give a little extra pep in your step!

Power posing is as simple as it sounds. You need to stand up straight, open your arms and place your hands on your hips, look straight ahead and smile. Breathe deeply, and hold for 2 minutes! It's that easy.

The idea behind power posing is that when we feel powerful or confident, we will often take up the same posture as someone who feels the same way, even if they are unaware of it themselves. This can help you feel more confident by taking up a powerful pose which you then subconsciously associate with feeling confident in yourself and thus making you act more confidently around others in everyday situations.
